Whats the difference between "matchmaking" and arranged marriages?

Matchmakers are like personal dating assistants. Like personal shoppers, they seek out good potential dating candidates for their clients.

Arranged marraiges are just about the marriage, not dating, and are usually done by the couple's parents.

Whats the difference between "matchmaking" and arranged marriages?
match making is when you go online and people match up by their interest

arrannged marriages is when family arranges marriages
Reply:I would say matchmaking is what a lot of women try to do, when they tell a guy "I know someone who would be perfect for you" %26amp; try to set them up on dates. A friend of mine recently fell victim to a failed matchmaking attempt. Some people at the clinic where my friend, a 31-year-old dentist, tried to set him up with another worker at the clinic, a 45-year-old janitor. Not surprisingly, these women thought something was wrong with my friend when turned down the offer as politely as possible, noting he prefers women his age or younger, %26amp; accused him of saying this woman was too old to date. Thank goodness he didn't mention her being a janitor.

Arranged marriages, to the best of my understanding, may be set up as early as childhood. The families, without regard for the feelings of the children in question, decide these kids will wed when they become old enough to do so. Some people say this custom actually works out quite well, %26amp; the arrangements are beneficial to both families. However, unlike with matchmaking, arranged marriages seem to offer the participants no choice. Also, matchmaking simply refers to dates, while arranged marriages are for the long haul.
