when i do matchmaking on halo 3, it takes forever to find a match, and it finds up to 300 games, but no possible matches. But when it does find a game, its really unsmooth. Is it because of my settings or my connection? please help =[
I can't connect to matchmaking...?
Try going into your Network settings and do a network test and see if your NAT is "Open" or if its "restricted". If its restricted theres your problem right there. Open NAT allows you to connect to more games etc. To open the NAT Enable DMZ on your router and disable any Firewall your router may have. Or if you concerned about your security use port forwarding. Tell me if your NAT is open or moderate/restricted and I may be able to help you more.
Reply:You could try editing your matchmaking options. Do this by pressing X. Because of your question you're most likely going to want to set it to Quicker Results or Better Connection. It all depends on what bugs you more, waiting for the game or having network difficulties while playing. If you would rather wait for the game than have problems with connection choose "Best Connection" if you want faster results choose "Quick Results" (It's not actually called quick results but the name is similar).
You still might experience network difficulties and you might be able to fix it and you might not be able to. If you live in a place far away from the majority of Halo 3 players your going ot have a higher "ping" which is related to how far you are from the server host, the farther you are the higher your ping will be, and the higher you are the more chances for you to have network difficulties.
Other causes for your network problems could be the type of internet service you have, if you've got a really slow internet connection you'll probably have some difficulties playing. Another thing that could be happening is other people on computers in your house using up your bandwidth. If they've got downloads going it can cause you to have some serious problems.
Hope I helped you out.
